"I’m leaving with a knowledge of not only problems around my own home but also problems throughout the world. I have passion about issues I previously knew nothing about and the motivation and self-assurance that I can and will do something. I’m capable of acting on my Jewish values and realize that I can make a difference in what I never thought possible. Summer JAM has given me ways to become involved in the government and has taught me of ways to help in other communities and countries."

Where and when is PANIM 's Summer JAM?
Summer JAM takes place on the campus of the George Washington University in downtown Washington, D.C. The program runs from June 30 - July 27, 2008.

Who attends?
Jewish students who are passionate about social justice and repairing the world. Students are rising juniors, rising seniors and graduating seniors and come from all over: from Oregon to Brooklyn, from New Mexico to Maine, from Florida to New Jersey, from Georgia to Ohio (we’ve even had one from Warsaw, Poland!). Participants consider themselves Reform, Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist and Unaffiliated. During the school year they attend all kinds of schools: public schools, orthodox Jewish day schools, private secular schools, pluralistic Jewish day schools, boarding schools, and (believe it or not) Catholic schools. Some have extensive Jewish knowledge, some are just beginning to learn, and many are somewhere in between.

Can I get community service credit for attending?
Absolutely. Upon the successful completion of the program, you will receive a certificate from PANIM giving you 75 hours of community service-learning credit.

Where will I sleep? What will I eat?
Participants and faculty stay in a GWU dormitory in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, DC. Students stay in doubles and triples. All food is kosher under the supervision of The Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington.

Who are the faculty?
The faculty includes young activists, educators, rabbinical and graduate students. JAM staff and faculty are chosen based on their academic and professional background and on their demonstrated commitment to a life of activism and Judaism.

What is the tuition and what does it cover?
The tuition is $$4,285 and covers all program-related expenses, including room and board, travel within D.C., field trips and entertainment activities. The tuition does not cover transportation to and from the program, spending money or laundry. Scholarships are available.
