Washington University in downtown Washington,
D.C. The program runs from June 30 - July 27, 2008.
Who attends?
Jewish students who are passionate about social justice
and repairing the world. Students are rising juniors, rising seniors
and graduating seniors and come from all over: from Oregon to Brooklyn,
from New Mexico to Maine, from Florida to New Jersey, from Georgia
to Ohio (we’ve even had one from Warsaw, Poland!). Participants
consider themselves Reform, Orthodox, Conservative, Reconstructionist
and Unaffiliated. During the school year they attend all kinds of
schools: public schools, orthodox Jewish day schools, private secular
schools, pluralistic Jewish day schools, boarding schools, and (believe
it or not) Catholic schools. Some have extensive Jewish knowledge,
some are just beginning to learn, and many are somewhere in between.
Can I get community service credit for attending?
Absolutely. Upon the successful completion of the program, you will
receive a certificate from PANIM
giving you 75 hours of community service-learning credit.
Where will I sleep? What will I eat?
Participants and faculty stay in a GWU dormitory in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, DC. Students stay in doubles and triples. All food is kosher under the supervision of The Rabbinical Council of Greater Washington.
Who are the faculty?
The faculty includes young activists, educators, rabbinical and graduate students. JAM staff and faculty are chosen based on their academic and professional background and on their demonstrated commitment to a life of activism and Judaism.
